18What does a Parent Teacher Association do?

Primarily, we aim to raise funds to purchase those little extras that a school may not stretch to, although in recent years we have focused on larger projects, such as ensuring all classrooms have ICT Smart boards, new stage blocks for the many shows and assemblies that you will come to love, and this year’s project which is to improve the playground facilities for the whole school. FOSTA at St Andrew’s however, feel we are much more than this. The positive relationships formed between the staff, children and parent/carer volunteers are a valuable element of school life here at St Andrew’s, enriching the learning and school days of our children.

Who is in the school Parent Teacher Association?

Every parent/carer is already a member.
We appreciate that busy schedules don’t allow much personal time so you can play as active a role as you wish or as your free time allows. We all want the best for our children and will do all we can to provide it. Every time you buy a raffle ticket, play lucky numbers, support school cake sales and other ventures you are helping to improve resources for your child.

How do we raise our funds?

Own clothes days – (children pay £1 to wear their own clothes on fun-days), Summer Fair, Christmas Fair, sponsored events, cake sales, Easter Fair, raffles – in fact, anyway we can!

Each year we run a Lucky Numbers Draw. All parents/carers are invited to purchase a number which they will keep for a year (cost £1 per number per month). A number is drawn monthly and the prize money is shared equally between school and the prize- winner. You will be invited to join this in September/October.

I hope that this note has helped you understand what our PTA is all about. You may ask why ours is called FOSTA. This is because we wanted it to be Friends of St Andrew the Apostle and not limited to parents. Nans, grandads, aunties, uncles etc are all very welcome.

If you would like to know more, please feel free to approach me on the playground, alternatively, leave your details at reception and I’ll get back to you.

Thanks for your time.

Ellen
