Computing

Nurturing and developing the digital citizens of tomorrow.

Intent

Technology is central to living and participating in the modern world we live in. Through teaching Computing we can equip children to fully engage in this rapidly changing world.

We believe that an engaging Computing curriculum will enable our pupils to use computational thinking and creativity which will impact on their own community and the wider world. They will become digitally literate – able to use, express themselves and develop ideas through information and communication technology confidently. They will develop their awareness of online safety and their understanding of how to use technology in a safe way. We will support them in developing into responsible and competent digital citizens.

Implementation

At St Andrew the Apostle, we use the Knowsley CLC Computing Scheme of Work. This ensures that we fulfil the National Curriculum for Computing in an active and creative way and develop key skills and knowledge.

Knowledge and skills are built upon in a progressive way as children move through KS1 and KS2. Digital Literacy, Information Technology and Computer Science are focused on throughout Scheme of Work Units to ensure all aspects are covered in every year group.

At every opportunity, computing skills are also developed within other curriculum areas. Particular cross curricular skills are outlined within the skills progression grid for Computing.

Impact

The Impact of our Computing curriculum is measured using a range of different strategies such as; data produce by on-going teacher assessments, monitoring of Computing work, lesson observations, learning walks and pupil voice.

The ultimate impact of our Computing Curriculum is to ensure that our children leave Key stage 2 prepared and ready to achieve in the Key Stage 3 curriculum. They will be secure in their journey of development into responsible and competent digital citizens.
